Tesla Motors will expand into right-hand-drive markets with its electric Roadster, starting with a UK launch in the first quarter of 2010.
Tesla Motors chief executive Elon Musk said the UK and other RHD markets including Australia, Japan and India were considered significant.
He told journalists that the costs involved in re-engineering the Lotus Elise-based Roadster for right-hand drive were not prohibitive, given that the base Lotus chassis is already sold in RHD, and that the line-up would soon include a more powerful Sport version.
There is already a lone Tesla Roadster in Australia which car was imported by Simon Hackett at a cost of about $200,000 Australian dollars. Unfortunatley, because it is left-hand-drive it can not be road registered in Australia.
