Autocar's Steve Sutcliffe got the chance to lap the German Eurospeedway in the Porsche GT3 R Hybrid.
Sutcliffe gives running commentary on what it's like to drive, notably explaining how he has to make sure not to add that extra 160-horsepower electric boost coming out of corners. As hitting the boost button instantly turns the car into an All Wheel Drive, I would have thought more traction out of corners is an advantage?
Illustration of the flywheel system operating is provided by an on-screen telemetry graphic. It shows how the energy used to 'boost' an extra 160 hp down a straight is immediately re-collected while braking at the other end of the same straight. It's not hard to imagine how this helped the 911 Hybrid avoid having to make 5 full pit stops for fuel during the Nurburgring 24 Hour, Brilliant!
