Secret Opel Battery Electric Vehicle seen testing in Austrian Alps
Is this General Motors answer to the Nissan Leaf? Opel has been developing a Battery Electric Vehicle in secret. Together with Bosch, Mercedes and some German institutes, Opel have started the project called Meregio.
The three Meriva prototypes that where tested in Austria show no visual changes compared to a normal ICE model except for the missing exhaust pipe.
But under the skin we find an electric engine and batteries. These cars where testing how much energy is needed while driving up the mountains and how much will be regenerated on the way down.
The cars were snapped while recharging between test runs. The Plug-In cords are clearly visible leading from the standard fuel tank filler cap location.
