The annual Pikes Peak Hill Climb will commence on Sunday July 8th and we can now reveal a special competitor will be among the entrants. An electrically powered BMW M3 is set to be entered by EV West and they have acquired the services of NASCAR veteren Boris Said to pilot the vehicle.
Aside from his experience in the NASCAR series, Said has also competed in the 24 Hours of Daytona, Sebring, Bathurst, 24 Hours of Nürburgring, the Daytona 500, Baja 1000 and Circuit de Spa. However, 2012 will be the first time he has ever competed at Pikes Peak.
Said will be against Pikes Peak record-holder and last year's winner Nobuhiro Tajima who has already announced he will pilot an eletrically powered rival at the event. Reports have stated the specially prepared 1995 BMW M3 will have as much as 700 horsepower available to thrust its wheels up the hill. The video above previews the model ahead of the event.
