Toyota started its home round of the World Endurance Championship on top as it beat Audi in opening practice at Fuji.
Kazuki Nakajima, back in the Toyota line-up for the first time since the Le Mans 24 Hours, set the pace with a lap of 1m28.809s.
Benoit Treluyer made a late improvement in the championship-leading #1 Audi to take second from Allan McNish in the #2, but was still 0.419 seconds down on the Toyota.
